JazzReset21
A massive programme of live jazz music has been announced for 2021 in Leeds. Called JazzReset21 and running for three months, the programme will feature dozens of COVID-safe events, concerts and masterclasses by established and emerging artists, from Ian Shaw on 27 May to Byron Wallen on 17th June.

The programme is part of an attempt to bring live jazz back to Leeds, and sees live music promoters JazzLeeds in partnership with arts space, Seven Arts.

In bringing JazzMain to The Globe, we welcome back a quartet that’ll lift our spirits well and truly out of the Lockdown gloom. Early last year when the band last performed at The Globe, we witnessed a real tour-de-force of quality jazz – music that was almost off-the-scale in its full-throttle, yet subtly nuanced, colourful and dynamic approach – in reality – you wouldn’t expect anything less from this band which has only had one change of personnel since its formation back in 2003.

In the intervening 18 years, they have performed hundreds of shows across the UK and Ireland as advocates for interpretating the vast known and little-known Blue Note Records’ catalogue – the ground-breaking label long associated with the likes of Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins and Dexter Gordon.

But there’s much more besides. Add in works by ‘The Little Giant’ – tenor maestro Tubby Hayes, Stevie Wonder amongst a raft of other great, trailblazing composers, then you soon realise how JazzMain never resorts to the ‘tried and tested’ – the quartet continually stretches its musical boundaries which has helped to forge exceptionally strong performance partnerships with the likes of guitar legend, Jim Mullen and the multi-award-winning and renowned UK tenor sax player Simon Spillett.

Celebrating 7 years of community ownership

30 April is International Jazz Day and the day that Jazz.Coop bought The Globe. Normally we would have a party but this year we can’t. Instead we are livestreaming a gig from The Globe featuring four of the finest young jazz musicians in the UK.

Finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician 2020 and winner of the Peter Whittingham Development Award 2019, saxophonist Matt Carmichael is a rising star in the youthful Scottish jazz scene.

Taking their influence from the likes of Christian Scott, Manu Katche, Chris Potter, Roller Trio and Joshua Redman yet still managing to create their own individual sound.
